MEET THE DESIGNER: Possibility Jewelry

possibility_rings

Every week leading up to Phoenix Fashion Week, we will be posting a blog, to help our fans get to know the 2014 emerging designers a little bit better.

Unlike our other posts, these come directly from this year’s emerging designers.

Today we feature Astrid Mueller with Possibility Jewelry, one of our emerging accessory designers. Learn about her life, her work and other little known facts in today’s designer tell all post.

Bio: (background, school, work)

I’m from Switzerland, and had first contact with the fashion industry as graphic designer at Swarovski. When starting my own design business. I first created illustrations for women magazines and fashion publications, then dove a bit into designing for weddings for a while.

Soon, I began to crave more creativity though. I loved weddings that were unique and design inspired. So, one day I contributed design elements for a fashion-inspired promotional styled photo shoot over the rooftops of New York. As a last minute inspiration, I created gem-inspired Lucite rings, with the late Liz Taylor’s famous jewelry collection as muse. Everyone loved the rings so much that eventually I felt compelled to create a jewelry line around them!

Where do you find inspiration for your collection?

Currently I’m designing within five different collections, each with different muses: SCALA is inspired by Old Hollywood, modern Zeitgeist, and the special, red carpet moments in life; CABO arose out of my love for travel, dreaming of that special getaway, where tropical plants, exotic animals and a warm sea breeze revives the senses; METROPOLIS draws inspiration from New York, architecture, and iconic women who celebrate a bold, unique sense of style; SNOVIT is inspired by snowflakes, ice and the glistening moments of winter; and lastly RUNWAY: which is currently almost my biggest passion – it’s the collection where I design for fashion shows, photo shoots and very special occasions, where bold, BIG statements are called for and creativity knows no limit!

Do you have any style icons?

Iris Apfel for her vibrant and bold style bravery. I love her! Same goes for all other women who rock their own style; I love it when women aren’t fashion victims but express who they are and wear what they love. I’m also very much inspired by 1940s Old Hollywood and the feminine, elegant, glamorous style of that time.

Do you have any fashion secrets you can share with our readers?

Funny enough, I’m not really that much of a fashion insider – my secret would be to pick what you like, wear what you love, and make it your own!

For beginner designers, what are some tips for setting yourself apart from other designers?

Being that I’m an accessory designer, my thoughts may not necessarily apply to everyone out there – but my tip is simply to follow your passion and stay true to it! Everyone is unique, chances are you have a very special talent and your own set of inspirations and muses waiting inside yourself too, just waiting to come out and come to life!

What trend are you looking forward to most this season?

Black and white!

Where are your favorite places to shop?

Being that I live on a remote island in Alaska, I don’t go shopping that much – if I do I treat myself to the occasional vintage handbag via etsy or small fun seasonal accessories from various online spots. When I travel, I love to bring home a few style updates to pair with my non-existent island fashion – to get a bit of fun and punch into my house of casual here!

Do you shop often to keep up with trends?

No, being that I live in bear country, I keep things pretty basic – but I do get the occasional craving where I need to get something fresh!

Do you have any tips on prioritizing purchases or staying stylish on a budget?

Whenever I don’t have a big budget and want to buy something, I’ll leave it and walk away. If I still crave this same item a day later, I’ll reconsider – otherwise it was probably not that important. To keep an updated wardrobe, I often just work with accessories and color touches. If you have good basics, you can easily update them with a fun scarf, funky sunglasses, or fresh jewelry.

Do you have an all-time favorite purchase?

All my clear rings, I love them all! My small guilty pleasure (and one of my inspirations to design accessories with Lucite)!

What is your favorite part about being an accessories designer?

The designing part! Sketching up style concepts that show my jewelry ideas in a fashion illustration-like manner, envisioning how the pieces will make women look glamorous!

What is one interesting, quirky fact about you that readers don’t know?

I actually don’t like making jewelry that much. Ha! I love designing it, seeing and wearing the finished pieces, but I’m looking forward to have people join me in creating the actual pieces.

MEET THE DESIGNER: Olga M Designs

Every week leading up to Phoenix Fashion Week, we will be posting a blog, to help our fans get to know the 2014 emerging designers a little bit better. Unlike our other posts, these come directly from this year’s emerging designers.

Today we feature Olga Medvedeva with Olga M Designs, one of our emerging accessory designers. Learn about her life, her work and other little known facts in today’s designer tell all post.

Bio: (background, school, work).

Olga Medvedeva with Olga M Designs

Having been born into artistic Russian family, I’ve always loved designing and creating beautiful and unique objects of art.

During my childhood, I attended art school for about three years, but mainly have been self-taught. In the early 2000s, I lived on a country farm in United States, raising peacocks and exotic pheasants with my family.

Every year, all the birds naturally molt their feathers after the breeding season, to make room for the new array of plumage to grace their mates for the upcoming year. I was very much in love with the colors and iridescence of these wonderful feathers and never wanted to throw them away. So, it was at that time that I started to collect them. Before I knew it, I had quite the collection and was adding various feathers into clothing and small objects, eventually progressing and designing larger and more complex feathered projects in the following years.

Where do you find inspiration for your collection?

My inspiration comes from various sources: nature, the colorful feathers themselves, minerals, flowers.

Do you have any style icons?

Hmm, there are a lot of style icons in the world, but I lean toward the graceful and elegant types.

Do you have any fashion secrets you can share with our readers?

It is very simple, really. Just be yourself.

For beginner designers, what are some tips for setting yourself apart from other designers?

Be who you are. Each designer has their own style and sense of direction and it’s reflected in their work. Everyone is naturally different–that is what makes you, as a designer, unique and stand on your own.

What trend are you looking forward to most this season?

I am looking forward to seeing women wear more skirts and dresses. And of course, elegant feathered fashion!

Where are your favorite places to shop?

Where there are beautiful clothes that “speak” to me.

Do you shop often to keep up with trends?

I believe that you create your own version of a ‘trend’ by wearing what makes you feel YOU. There may be some aspects of a current trend that you like and you may incorporate it into your wardrobe because you LIKE it, not because it is trendy or fashionable at the moment. Fashion and trends always change. You don’t need to change with it.

Do you have any tips on prioritizing purchases or staying stylish on a budget?

It is always good to have a fantastic white shirt, a stunning black dress, a sophisticated skirt and a pair of elegant slacks in your closet. You don’t need to have a lot of clothes. Just a few really good ones, that are timeless, will go with anything and will make you look stunning in any environment you may find yourself in.

And of course, you can’t forget the accessories. Make it simple and elegant. Sometimes less is more.

Do you have an all-time favorite purchase?

Absolutely–the vintage, black lace dress that I embellished with black feathers!  It’s off the shoulder and laces up in the back. I love that dress.

Also, a pair of black high heels from Bebe. I must say, they are the MOST comfortable pair of shoes with a 3-4 inch heel. I can walk in all day and my feet do not get tired!

What is your favorite part about being a fashion designer?

You can create anything you wish.

What is one interesting, quirky fact about you that readers don’t know?

Hmm, which one to tell you…My best friend and I started a business before we were even teenagers. We painted murals in our town, eventually receiving a contract from a local school. It was great!

We’re now seeing new trends and styles emerge from the blogosphere with viral speed. Indie Stitch wants to help build and grow our fashion community through creating real life connections between bloggers. The larger and more connected our community, the easier it is to attract designers and brands to our town, thus helping to grow our scene,” Hoyman said.

Bri Seeley To Host Fashion Show In Benefit of Step Up Women’s Network

Seeley_web_lg_ copy

Bri Seeley, Los Angeles-based fashion designer, will display her Spring/Summer 2014 line, The Silence Collection, at Eden in Hollywood on 10/10/2013. The event is being hosted in benefit of Step Up Women’s Network, a nonprofit organization dedicated to igniting women and girls to fulfill their potential.

The Silence Collection highlights Seeley’s signature feminine details, quality craftsmanship, and wearable functionality. Seeley designed the collection using the idea that the Bri Seeley woman does not require words to make a statement – her femininity radiates from every move she makes. The silhouettes are simple yet intriguing. The palette is soft yet expressive. Each piece was created to accommodate the multifaceted lives of Seeley’s clients and can easily be transitioned from day to evening, and business to personal with a modern wearability that women crave. Seeley is partnering with 15 of Los Angeles’ top fashion and lifestyle bloggers to model the collection on the runway, “We recognize that bloggers are relatable for our customers and are excited to feature a variety of women on the runway ranging from 5’2” to 5’11”,” Seeley said.

The event will kick off a month-long collaboration with Luevo.com, the first product-based crowdfunding platform that connects independent fashion designers with consumers. Luevo was created for consumers to discover and pre-order high quality, exclusive fashion goods. Attendees of Seeley’s 10/10/2013 event will be able to order the Spring/Summer looks straight off of the runway, “When planning the event, it was very important for us to bring real women together in a display of style and technology in one memorable evening. Partnering with Luevo.com was a natural way for our audience to not only see upcoming fashion trends, but purchase them immediately using their everyday technology,” Seeley said.

Celebrity fashion stylist, Franzy Staedter, will create the looks that can only be described as California lifestyle meets New York chic, “The handbags, jewelry, and shoes will collaborate with the collection to speak to the life of the modern women,” Staedter said.

The official hair and makeup team from the Paul Mitchell Academy will be led by Lyndsay Michelle. Michelle will create updated versions of the classic chignon and cat-eye looks for the runway presentation.
