Street Style with PHXFW: ASU Campus

Arizona State University is known as one of the largest schools in the state. With housing some of the most prestigious programs nationwide, it’s no wonder that the school has enrolled over 80,000 students this year alone. What’s great about this college environment is that it offers a wide range of styles and while students crack open the books, they look good doing it. Being a student may not always be glamorous, but those featured in this week’s street style make fashion a priority.

{VIDEO} GET THE LOOK: The Perfect Blowout

Take a break from rocking the messy bun or hats on bad hair days. Phoenix Fashion Week is showing you how to #GetTheLook and achieve the perfect blowout, with the help of the Official Hair Partner of PHXFW 2014: TONI&GUY. With fashion week rapidly approaching, this how to video provides style tips, that will take your hair from flat to fabulous and runway ready!

What You Need:
  1. Round Brush
  2. Blow Dryer
  3. TIGI Catwalk -Your Highness Boost
  4. TIGI Bed Head- After Party Smoothing Cream
How to Get the Look:
  1. Make sure your hair is 75% dry.
  2. Use the product, TIGI Bed Head After Party Smoothing Cream, to rake it with a round brush.
  3. Section off your hair from front to back and start underneath.
  4. Take your round brush and place hair around it, using the blow dryer to add tension and heat, (you’re going to do this several times to the same strand of hair).
  5. Before releasing the strand, twist your wrist and then release, which helps give the ends a smoothness and curl.
  6. Do this repeatedly until your whole head is complete.
  7. Add TIGI Catwalk Your Highness Boost to your roots to give hair some lift.
  8. Tousle and go!

Warby Parker’s ‘Spectrum Sun Collection’ Makes a Spring Splash

warby parker pic

One of the easiest ways to add instant sophistication to your spring ensemble is with a pair of colorful sunnies. Lucky for you, eye-wear designer Warby Parker recently revealed an all-new collection, “Spectrum Sun” featuring “cheery shapes and punches of color” that will brighten up your spring plans this season.

What’s more, there’s no need to feel guilty about your purchase. For every pair sold, Warby Parker distributes a pair to someone in need. Now that’s what we call fashionable giving!

We had the opportunity to catch a preview of the collection and highlighted some of our favorite styles below:

hall-sun-cherry-blossom-top

We love the oversized Hall‘s strong browline and slightly square lenses, with a perfectly pretty cherry blossom tint.

boyd

For a smoky punch to your ensemble, consider the Boyd in Marbled Charcoal.

raskin

Aviators are classic, and the Raskin in Jet Silver is a fresh take for the season.

quimby

“Forget going incognito. Quimby’s Absinthe round lenses will turn heads.”

downing-sun-striped-sassafras-top

The Downing (Striped Sassafras) is quirky, yet refined, and the blue tint feels fresh for spring.

Which pair of sunnies will you be rocking this spring? Share in the comments below!

Fashion Week Favorites: Best Dressed at 2014 Oscars

While the overcast, rainy weather threatened to put a damper on the celebrity arrivals at the 2014 Oscars last night, we were pleasantly surprised to see the clouds part for some seriously gorgeous red carpet fashions, along with memorable moments during the award show as well, brought to you by the genius host, Ellen DeGeneres…can we say “selfie”?

kate hudson oscars 2014

Hello gorgeous! While Kate Hudson was one of the last to walk the red carpet at Oscars, she made her impact in a truly memorable way, wearing a bejeweled Atelier Versace gown and cape.

lupita oscars 2014

12 Years of Slave Best Actress Winner Lupita Nyong’o earned her spot on the best dressed list once again, with a Nairobi blue custom Prada number inspired by champagne bubbles and matching headband.

jennifer lawrence oscars 2014

Adding a needed pop of color to the Oscars, Jennifer Lawrence looked red hot in Dior. Given her history of clumsiness, Lawrence admitted she even “did a stair test” in the gown before the event. (see her 2013 ‘best dressed’ look, also in Dior)

cate blanchett oscars 2014

Excuse us while we pick our jaws up off the floor. The ‘Blue Jasmine’ actress Cate Blanchett gave serious credibility to the evening’s ‘sparkly neutrals’ trend, in an Armani Prive floor-length gown.

charlize theron oscars 2014

Making an appearance in our red carpet recap once again, Charlize Theron knows how to rock $15 million in Harry Winston jewels and a seriously deep v-neckline gown, this time in Dior. (see her 2013 ‘best dressed look’)

brad pitt angie oscars 2014

Best Dressed Couple….goes to Brad Pitt in a dapper tux and Angelina Jolie dripping in shimmer in Elie Saab Haute Couture.

Best Moments:

If the stunning fashions weren’t enough to keep you entertained for hours, how about the hilarious monologue and moments by host Ellen DeGeneres!

pizza oscars 2014

Pizza, anyone? Ellen surprised everyone by staying true to her word and delivering pizza straight to the celebrities in their seats. Brad Pitt helped hand out plates, while Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Jared Leto and Harrison Ford enjoyed a slice (or two). We are guessing that pizza guy will be adding this to his resume.

selfie oscars 2014

Let’s take a selfie. See, celebrities are just like us, even at the most glamorous awards show of the year. Ellen organized a quick selfie pic (it was Meryl’s first selfie!) to break a Twitter RT record and in the process, actually broke Twitter. The selfie became the most re-tweeted picture ever, hitting over 2 million retweets! Hats off to you Ellen, well deserved!

lupita gif oscars

#lupitaslipbalm: Ellen later returned to the A-list crowd to collect money for the pizza in what else, Pharrell’s hat. Best Actress winner Lupita dropped in her favorite lipbalm, which Ellen proceeded to put in her pocket, claiming it would be worth something. No surprise here, #lupitaslipbalm quickly became a popular trending topic on Twitter, even resulting in it’s own Twitter page. In case you were wondering, her lipbalm was Clarins, and it’s already close to sold out across the country.

NEWS: Ken Downing Holiday Collection at Neiman Marcus Scottsdale

image

The holidays are finally upon us here in Arizona and that means fall weather (in the 70’s!) and shopping for your holiday wish list. This year, Neiman Marcus’ Fashion Director, Ken Downing, has curated an exclusive gift collection of 37 gifts ranging in price from $32 – $1,800. Ten percent of the sales of each of these gifts will benefit a local charity supporting arts experiences for youth. Neiman Marcus Scottsdale has selected the Phoenix Art Museum’s “PhxArtKids” program. The collection will be available November 20 through December 24.

Designers include: Chanel, Maison Francis Kurkdijan (a perfumer based in Paris that is the unknown, until now, genius behind 40+popular perfumes) , Nest, Tom Ford Beauty (check out the Tom Ford Beauty Shop! It’s the only one in the state), John Hardy, Ippolita, Alexis Bittar, Michael Kors, Eddie Borgo, Jonathan Adler (the quote pillows are a great option), William Yeoward, Monica Rich Kosann, Mrs. John L. Strong, John Derian, Alexander Wang, Moncler, Charlotte Olympia, Alexander McQueen (featuring signature studded skull clutch), Tory Burch and Stella McCartney.

Neiman Marcus Scottsdale celebrated the launch of the collection this past Wednesday, November 20, at 11 a.m., with a preview. The collection’s presentation in the store mirrored Downing’s impeccable visual merchandising background, with treats for the eyes (gift ideas are endless!), ears (carolers sang Christmas carols throughout the store) and stomach (peppermint hot chocolate was a sweet addition). Much thanks to Lisa Pagel, Katherine Thornhill and the Neiman Marcus team for the invite and exclusive #chicpeek!

Designer of the Year Bri Seeley Returns to Phoenix to Host Trunk Show

TrunkShow SQUARE

Whether you are a fashion blogger looking to network, a fashionista that shops local or you just want to stay on-top of the latest trends, the upcoming Bri Seeley x Indie Stitch event at Clothes Minded is a must! Join Bri Seeley, Phoenix Fashion Week’s 2012 Designer of the Year, for an exclusive shopping event at popular Ahwatukee Foothills boutique Clothes Minded! Clothes Minded owner Kim Kendall is passionate about supporting local designers (many of them connected with Phoenix Fashion Week!) and is striving to build awareness about the fact that “designer” clothing doesn’t have to cost a fortune.  “I am hosting this event to not only support Bri Seeley, but support the blogger community because they’re becoming a huge influence in the industry…every brand today should have a blog!” Kendall said.

Shop her award winning Escape Collection at 40% off, and pre-order her newest Silence Collection that debuted on the Phoenix Fashion Week runway last month! “I’m very excited to be returning to Phoenix. The community has been so remarkably supportive of my brand since winning Designer of the Year. An event like this, and the partnerships with Phoenix Fashion Week, Clothes Minded, and Indie Stitch give me an opportunity to connect with my customers on a more personal level,” Seeley said.

DATE: Friday, November 15, 2013
TIME: 4pm to 8pm
LOCATION: Clothes Minded AZ, 4810 E. Ray Road. #13, Phoenix, AZ 85044

Bri Seeley has also partnered with well-known local blogger Dustin Hoyman of Indie Stitch to activate the talented crop of bloggers here in Arizona. “Bloggers are becoming increasingly important to fashion. While a singular blog might not have the impact of a large publication, a strong blogging community can provide the voice and excitement to be the catalyst for change. We’re now seeing new trends and styles emerge from the blogosphere with viral speed. Indie Stitch wants to help build and grow our fashion community through creating real life connections between bloggers. The larger and more connected our community, the easier it is to attract designers and brands to our town, thus helping to grow our scene,” Hoyman said.
