SAG Awards Fashion Recap

The 18thannual Screen Actors Guild Awards premiered on TNT and TBS Sunday night, and it certainly did not disappoint!  As far as award shows go, the SAG Awards always seem the most relaxed and enjoyable party for the stars, and they were really out in full swing tonight. It seemed like anyone who’s anyone packed Shrine Auditorium. There were laughs, drinks and plenty of “actors” given out, but let’s skip to what we all really want to hear about—the clothes!

We’re listing our picks of the best and worst looks on one of Hollywood’s biggest nights of the year:

Red Carpet Hits:

Emma Stone in Alexander McQueen: Emma has proven time and time again that she is a fashion force to be reckoned with but Sunday night she really outdid herself in this 1950’s inspired McQueen number. While most starlets opt for the classic floor length gown, leave it to Emma to shake things up. The dress fits her like a glove and the bodice detailing adds just the right amount of sass without being too much, and let’s not forget those stunning vintage Tiffany’s earrings. If I were to sum up this look in a word, it would be perfection.

Viola Davis in Marchesa: This was truly a match made in heaven. Viola, who took home the actor for ‘Best Actress in a Drama’ that night for her role in The Help, looked simply beautiful. When she stepped onto the carpet, it literally took my breath away. Every part of this look was superb, from the draping of the Grecian inspired gown and the detailed beading, to the gorgeous colors and natural make-up. This is how a star works an award show.

George Clooney in Armani and girlfriend Stacy Keibler in Marchesa: And the award for most gorgeous couple goes to…The pair, who always seem to look perfect, did not disappoint at the SAG Awards. Clooney, looking ever the leading man, was perfectly at ease in his navy Armani ensemble, which complimented his date’s lace Marchesa gown effortlessly. Is there anything else that can be said about these two besides WOW?

John Krasinski in Prada and wife Emily Blunt in Oscar De La Renta: The always cute and humble couple looked absolutely effortless on the red carpet. Krasinski shined in a dark blue Prada suite with silk detailing and earned extra points, and a few swoons, when he correctly guessed the designer of his wife’s dress in a red carpet interview…now that’s an attentive hubby! Emily looked gorgeous in bright green Oscar De La Renta. The simple silhouette and nude accessories were just enough to compliment the bold hue that is very on trend this season.

Sofia Vergara in Marchesa: The SAG Awards may as well have been dubbed a Marchesa runway show! The Modern Family star looked radiant in fuchsia and complimentary pink drop earrings and cuff. If there’s one starlet that knows how to accessorize, it’s Vergara. Not to mention the dress was tailored perfectly to her curvy frame. But let’s face it; does the comedy bombshell ever not look good?

Michelle Williams in Valentino: The My Week with Marilyn actress certainly switched things up from her frumpy velvet ensemble at the Golden Globes. The seasoned actress took a major fashion risk by dressing head to toe in red on the also red carpet, but it paid off. Her Valentino dress showcased her petite frame in a simple and classy way but added a bit of sexiness with the lace detail. And in this instance, the matching red shoes, clutch, nails and hair complemented the outfit perfectly.

Red Carpet Misses:

Busy Phillips: There really isn’t much to say about this outfit expect maybe, who’s curtains did Phillips steal to make this dress? Aside from the overkill print and tacky boho jewelry, the “gown” does absolutely nothing for the beautiful starlet. She may even be able to fit a couple of SAG Award nominees in the dress with her. The dress is simply frumpy and unflattering. Sorry Busy, better luck at the Oscars.

Heather Morris: The Glee star’s frock gave me déjà vu of a similar dress Halle Berry wore to the 68th annual Golden Globe awards. While the actress took a risk choosing a mini dress at an award show, in this case it did not pay off. The busy ensemblecauses the eye to look everywhere all at once. From the sheer front and long train to the leather detailing and messy hair, it is just too much going on in one look.

Amber Riley: The usually on point actress had a bit of a misstep Sunday night. While the lace printed form fitting dress was nice, the larger than life bow and sky high hairdo proved to be too much to handle. The bow overpowers what would otherwise be a striking simple ensemble and the beehive hairdo does absolutely nothing for the gorgeous Glee star.

Kaley Cuoco: The Big Bang Theory stunner is normally perfection on the red carpet but at the SAG Awards, she looked like she belonged on a 4-year-old’s birthday cake. While her feathered seafoam Ramona Keveza gown gets points for being girly and princess inspired, the cotton candy confection was a little too sugar and spice for the occasion. If the gown had been black and Cuoco had paired it with a sleek up do as opposed to her messy braid, this could have definitely been a best dressed choice.
