Phoenix: 5 Must-Attend Fashion Events in January
Prep your fashion calendar for 2013 and a new year of opportunities! Phoenix Fashion Week has loads of exciting plans up our sleeves this year, including The Fashion Hub, but in the mean time, here are some of the best local fashion events you will catch us at this month:
1.) Fashion AZ Meetup, hosted by Phoenix Fashion Week – Friday, January 11th 6pm at Majerle’s in Scottsdale.
Bring your business cards, portfolio and a fashionable friend for a night of networking, shopping and giveaways! For more information and to RSVP, visit the Fashion AZ Meetup website!
2.) Heels, Hemlines and High Spirits: Shoe Fashion – January 9th, 7pm at Phoenix Art Museum.
As you may have heard, Phoenix Art Museum‘s ‘Modern Spirit’ exhibition was recently featured in Lucky Magazine. They have some amazing events and lectures coming up surrounding this exhibit before it closes in February.
Join Elizabeth Semmelhack, curator of the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto, for a walk through shoe fashion of the 1920s, as raised hemlines put our feet (and how we adorn them) on display.
3.) Advanced Style – January 9th, 12:30pm at Phoenix Art Museum
If you can grab a long lunch, this presentation is a must. Ari Seth Cohen, creator of the blog, book and movie Advanced Style, offers a presentation on personal style; book signing to follow. For a preview of the film, click HERE.
4.) Lady Gaga: Born this Way Ball Tour, January 23 at US Airways Center
Lady Gaga is notorious for pushing the boundaries of fashion, and we can’t wait to see what she comes up with next during her countless wardrobe changes when her tour returns to Phoenix!
5.) Gallery Talk – The Modern Spirit in Architecture and Design – January 23, 7pm at Phoenix Art Museum
As Anne Klein once said, “A designer is a designer, even if she’s designing toothbrushes and hospital gowns.” This too applies to the design of buildings and its relevance to fashion. Join architect Richard Jensen and designer Caesar Chaves for a discussion of how the “modern spirit” filtered into buildings and graphics of the era.
