PHXFW’s Brittany Brown to Premiere on America’s Next Top Model

At Phoenix Fashion Week, we are able to discover hidden talent around the state and provide them a platform for the best exposure possible. This is seen in our Model of the Year Competition, where we choose the Top 40 male and female models to compete in a variety of challenges leading up to fashion week, which not only prepares them for the fashion industry, but gives them immense experience and skills necessary for a lasting modeling career.

Last year, we welcomed another young talent, Brittany Brown, into our Model of the Year Competition. Having modeled since a young age, Brown did incredibly well and showed undoubted promise in a cut-throat industry. This was confirmed when Brown recently announced she was a Top 13 contestant on Cycle 19 of America’s Next Top Model: College Edition.

Brown, a Gilbert-native, has always been a huge fan of the show, but you may be surprised to hear she actually auditioned for the show last year, but barely missed the cut due to her being under the age of 18. However, she believes the experience was “meant to be”, as she “felt more ready than ever” to audition again this year. The process happened quickly, as she went from submitting her audition packet to flying out to LA, making the top 30 and…the rest is history. “It was like a dream come true. I just lost my breath when Tyra announced my name. My reaction was pure excitement and a ready to go attitude…I knew I had to put my game face on,” Brown said, when she was chosen as the Top 13.

While the details of the show are being kept under wraps, Brown did let slip that

she is portrayed as a Disney loving, sweet girl on the show, which comes as no surprise considering this Chandler-Gilbert Community College student is accepted in the Disney College Program and loves Lion King! In fact, one of her favorite quotes to live by comes from Walt Disney himself: “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” Pretty inspirational, no?

As far as her experience on the show, Brown did admit it was “definitely a positive one…amazing, unexpected. It was really more than that, it opened a lot of doors.” Of course, the competition and show were also great learning experiences. “I really learned to stay true to myself. It strengthened my confidence even more and taught me to remember who you are and where you come from.”

Brown plans to complete this semester at her school, before moving to the fashion capital of the world, New York City, with her sister Madison, who also models. “I want to travel the world with Madison, modeling and walking the runways in Milan, Paris and New York…I want my name to be known.”

Not only does she want to thrive in modeling, she has multiple creative outlets and hopes to try her hand in acting. “Acting is one of my biggest passions. I was a theater kid in high school,  but I love being in front of the camera. In a way, modeling and acting go hand in hand, and they are also very different.”

With such talent, confidence and wisdom well beyond her early years, it’s obvious these goals will be no problem for Brown, and the team at Phoenix Fashion Week could not be more thrilled for her! Don’t miss Brittany on America’s Next Top Model: College Edition’s first episode, premiering this Friday August 24th on the CW!
