Scissors Rox Paper to Be Official Salon Sponsor of Runway Challenge

The Phoenix Fashion Week calendar is in full swing, with only months until fashion week! In particular, our Model of the Year contest challenges are currently on our radar, and we are thrilled to announce a not only fashion forward, but award-winning Paradise Valley salon, Scissors Rox Paper, as our Official Salon Sponsor of our Shop Garment District Event (coupled with our Model of the Year Runway Challenge) August 10th!

Scissors Rox Paper not only has an amazing work ethic with their exceptionally trained stylists, but they also share PHXFW’s mission to consistently give back to their community.

I had the opportunity to catch up with Jody Johns of Scissors Rox Paper and grab a great background on their gorgeous salon, along with a sneak peek into their plans for fashion week.

Provide our readers a brief background on your salon and it’s services.
“Scissors Rox Paper is an award-winning salon located in Paradise Valley, Arizona.  The founders, Deanna Montrose and Carlos Villalobos have a combined 48 years of ownership experience.  Their previous ventures have included some of the fastest growing salons, not only in Arizona, but in the nation as well.  With a desire to get back to their roots, Deanna and Carlos decided to scale down and focus on hand- picking a select number of stylists.  Each stylist has been chosen for their impeccable skill, their drive and desire to continue their education, and their fun yet focused personality.

The staff and stylists at SRP are very much like a family.  They enjoy working together as a team and also share a lot of the same interests outside of the salon.  You will recognize this the moment you walk through the front door.  As a client, you will soon feel that you are part of their family, as well.

As an exclusive Bumble and bumble network salon, each of the stylists have been developing their skills at Bumble and bumble University in New York City–an institute for higher learning or graduate school for hairdressers.  Because of the emphasis Scissors Rox Paper places on their advanced training, the salon is able to provide top quality services including: precision cuts-both scissor and razor,

custom color blending and trendsetting color techniques such as ombre and baliage, keratin smoothing treatments to tame frizz and unruly curls, permanent waving, special event styling for a special night out or for your entire wedding party, and the most innovative hair extensions that take only an hour to install.
Scissors Rox Paper also employs a full service aesthetician who offers a full gamut of spa services including facials, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, waxing, and make up application. Scissors Rox Paper is truly your destination for exceptional service and a fun, friendly atmosphere.”

What are some unique services/points that make your salon different than others in town?
“Scissors Rox Paper is truly focused on ensuring that each of their stylists is impeccably trained.  Each year the salon sends six stylists to New York to study with the brilliant minds at Bumble and bumble.  They focus on everything from classic technique to how to cut curly hair to latest trends in color.  In addition, SRP stylists are extremely passionate about dress-work and special occasion styling. This type of styling is genuinely an art form.  Whether its soft waves that last all night, a fun fishtail braid for prom, or an exquisite bridal chignon, you will not find this level of styling skill elsewhere in the valley.”

Do you have any exciting upcoming events, specials, etc?
“Aside from PHXFW, Scissors Rox Paper has a couple upcoming events being planned.  The first being a series of client styling classes.  SRP stylists understand how difficult it is to re-create your salon style at home.  In order to help, they have decided to host a short series of styling classes on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Class size will be limited to ensure each client gets a one-on-one experience with a stylist.  Each class will focus on a different technique-a quick round brush blow-dry, a perfect ponytail, and a three-pin updo for summer.  Class dates and times are still being discussed, but more details will be available soon!  In addition, twice a year SRP hosts a Client Appreciation Day.  These events usually occur mid-summer and right after the holidays.  Clients are given discounts on products, enjoy complimentary deep conditioning treatments with their service, and nosh on tasty treats.”

Like PHXFW gives back to our community, we also hear you are raising money for charitable causes…tell us about this.
“Community involvement is huge at Scissors Rox Paper.  The salon’s involvement in charities is honestly reflective of each individual team member’s personal passions.  The salon is made up of mothers and fathers who inspire involvement with charity events supporting Ryan House, Not My Kid, and Phoenix Children’s Hospital. Some of the stylists have experienced the struggles involved in battling cancer either themselves or with their friends and family members.  In response, SRP has donated good and services to several fundraisers including, Come Hell or High Water in 2010, a Cut for a Cause in 2011 in which a generous donation was made to the Lymphoma Foundation, and Beat Mama-San’s cancer in 2012.  Stylists also had the pleasure of hosting a child and her friend who had been granted a day of pampering by the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  And almost every person employed at SRP has a pet. The furry family members have influenced involvement with organizations like Home Fur Good and the Arizona Humane Society.  Each and every member of SRP staff is encouraged to give back whenever possible and no cause is too small.  The salon once collected hair to help clean up the Gulf Oil Spill and, in the same month, donated baskets stuffed with goods and services to local student fundraisers and raffles.  SRP rarely turns down an opportunity to support the community that supports them.”

Why is the Model of the Year Runway Challenge such a great fit for your brand to be featured at?
“As a small salon, the Model of the Year Runway Challenge is a perfect fit because the stylists won’t feel overwhelmed by the task of styling hundreds of models. Also, these models are up-and-coming, working to make a name for themselves in a world full of models. SRP just celebrated it’s sixth anniversary.  Like the models competing in this challenge, the team at SRP has been working to make a name for themselves in a city full of salons. So, in a way, SRP and the Model of the Year Runway Challenge were made for each other!”

How should guests expect to see your brand represented at the event?
“The team at SRP has decided to offer a sampling of goods and services to the attendees at this year’s event.  The swag bags will be stuffed with SRP service menus including discount coupons to new clients that may be used for hair or skincare services.  Also included will be SRP style cards featuring hairstyle how-to’s directly from the minds behind the chairs at Scissors Rox Paper.  And finally, SRP will be including a set of miniature bumble and bumble products to introduce guests to the true foundation of a great style.”

How do you feel PHXFW is moving fashion forward in Arizona?
“SRP is so proud to be a part of Phoenix Fashion Week.  The team has had the honor of watching the event grow every year and become a more prominent force in the Phoenix fashion scene.  Phoenix Fashion Week has had the ability to reach millions of Arizonans and help them channel their inner fashionista.  By doing so, PHXFW has impacted the entire industry-clothing retailers, spas, and salons. In a city full of yoga pants and flip flops, Phoenix Fashion Week is reminding people that fashion is fun! ”

Don’t miss the amazing styling by Scissors Rox Paper for our runway models this August 10th! Stay tuned for more details, but mark your calendars for a fantastic event!
