Style Icon Iris Apfel is Newest MAC Collaborator

The MAC Cosmetic counters were in for a huge surprise January 5th, when a collection by the unique and extravagant Iris Apfel was added to their prestigious list of collaborators. Apfel sure delivered in this collection that is un-surprisingly heavy in the  lipstick department.

Three standout lip shades in this flashy collection are Scarlet Ibis, Pink Pigeon and Party Parrot. The collection also includes bright shadows and nail polishes, a brow pencil, mascara and beauty powder.

This MAC collaboration is not the only thing this sprightly nonagenarian has been working on. On the contrary, Apfel has been a busy girl. She is currently designing her own HSN jewelry line and is the subject of Albert Maysles’s latest documentary.

According to Bradley Kaplan, Maysles Film’s president of products, tells the Times, “She’s wonderfully strong-willed, opinionated and single-minded. She’s not a waffler.”

Kaplan also added a particularly memorable point concerning Apfel’s owl-framed specs stating that her glasses have actually turned into a metaphor for her eyes and through them we see a peculiar way of looking at our own world.

A little backstory on the quirky Apfel: She was born in Queens and made a living working alongside her husband in interior decorations and textiles. This team has had the opportunity to work on design restorations for the White House during Truman, Kennedy and Clinton’s respective terms according to the Stylelist Network.

Nowadays, the fun loving fashion icon is better known for her eccentric style in “Bill Cunningham New York.” She also makes regular appearances on Ari Seth Cohen’s blog. Furthermore, as if that was not enough, Apfel is also an illustrious member of the Stylelist Network Advanced Style.

There is no doubt this self-described “geriatric starlet” is sure to keep us guessing for many years to come.
