Alma Primero Coleccion Brings Latino Culture to Life at MIM Rocks Fashion

Coleccion show at PHXFW 2010

Alma Primero has always had a love affair with fashion, starting at a very young age when she would create clothes for her dolls. This dream became a reality after she studied at FIDM in Los Angeles and traveled the world, collecting many memories and images that would influence her future designs for her fashion line, Alma Primero Coleccion. Perhaps one of the strongest influences on her garments is her family history and culture. As seen in the picture on the right, Alma’s Mexican culture was filled with inspiration, whether it was black and white images of her growing up or her family’s strong passion for mariachi. In fact, Alma’s most recent collection, walking down the runway at MIM Rocks Fashion on Thursday, was inspired by the costumes of mariachi bands and musicians. “Growing up, I was always around the mariachi culture…my family really inspired me, and I’m so excited to be able to show through my collection,” Primero said. She is also a hit with celebs, with her designs  recently seen on Emma Bell from Final Destination 5, Adrienne Maloof from Beverly Hills Housewives and Dancing with the Stars Cheryl Burke to name a few.

PHXFW is also excited to announce local stylist Fawn Cheng will make up the other half of this dynamite duo.  Whether it’s red carpet styling, shop your closet or regular spots as a featured Style Expert on Good Morning Arizona, Fawn has loads of experience under her perfectly coordinated belt to apply to MIM Rocks Fashion. Not to mention, being half Mexican, she grew up with strong Latino influences to assist her with bringing the culture to life on the runway. “I was easily invigorated, in terms of inspiration. Memories that came to mind centered around food, family, and celebrations, but equally around expressions of passion and sensuality. It was easy for me to translate my vision to Alma as she experienced so much of the same nuances as I. The heartbeat of Mexican culture is proud and strong,” Cheng said. Like her fellow stylists, Fawn believes Arizona has so much to offer the fashion community and feels this event is a great way to showcase it. “We can never have too much interest in fashion or our industry valley wide! There is a plethora of talent out there—from designers, to stylists, to photographers—who need a platform to be recognized for their talent and art. By pushing fashion forward the way MIM and Phoenix Fashion Week are doing, they engender a spirit of community and set a standard for professionalism in our industry.”

If you haven’t already purchased your tickets, make sure to buy them now or at the door! Don’t miss this amazing collaboration that will bring the Latino culture to life, live on the runway at MIM Rocks Fashion!
