Fresh Start Gala Combines the Best of Fashion and Charitable Giving

Phoenix Fashion Weeks always strives to support charitable causes and give back to the local community, whether it’s raising money for Susan G. Komen in support of breast cancer awareness with our annual Fashionably Pink show or “fashionably giving” in a big way for our annual Fashion Gives Back donation drive benefiting AZ Helping Hands. Another charitable organization dedicated to changing lives is the Fresh Start Women’s Foundation. If you haven’t heard of them, this is an amazing organization that began in 2002 by the Jewell McFarland Lewis Women’s Resource in Phoenix and continues to see visits from over 25,000 women each year. According to Susan Berman, President & CEO of Fresh Start, these are women in transition who are seeking help with career and marriage crisis, domestic violence and child custody conflicts, or general life changes and challenges.  Fresh Start offers mentoring, career services, self-esteem services, education, a library, child watch, legal services and counseling to aid these women in whatever they may need.  The center offers a myriad of classes – from healthy eating, to personal finance, to resume writing, and so much more.  Any woman over the age of 18, regardless of economic status, can come to Fresh Start for services.

Fresh Start is a non-profit organization that relies on the generosity of personal, corporate and funded grants.  To learn more about Fresh Start, or to support its mission with a donation, please visit their website.

Phoenix Fashion Week is excited to announce we will be attending Fresh Start’s annual Fashion Gala fundraiser this

15th Annual Gala Host Katie Couric

Saturday evening, hosted at The Arizona Biltmore, with The Arizona Republic as the presenting sponsor, along with APS, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona, Universal Technical Institute and Pamela Overton Risoleo/Greenberg Traurig as their Hope Sponsors. This year’s event will feature a cocktail reception with silent auction, gourmet dinner with guest speakers and live auction – followed by the full-scale runway fashion show featuring Ralph Lauren.  The evening finishes off with the Club Jewell after-party.

Of course, we are looking forward to the amazing fashion show, organized by Saks Fifth Avenue and The Agency Arizona. “Fresh Start is so fortunate to have Saks Fifth Avenue as a long-standing partner for the Fresh Start Fashion Gala.  Saks got Ralph Lauren involved in this year’s gala.  They are sending us their 2012 Spring Runway Collection and Black Label Collection to showcase on Saturday.  The looks will then be featured at a trunk show at Saks on Monday, February 27 and Tuesday, February 28 from 10-5 with informal modeling from 12-3.  Saks is donating 5% of all purchase made with a Saks credit card back to Fresh Start for the month of February when you designate Fresh Start as your charity,” Berman said.

PHXFW’s Media Team will be on site grabbing pictures and street style, along with live tweets and Facebook updates, so if you are planning on attending, make sure and say hi!

*We love feedback! Post a comment with outfit suggestions for Saturday and you could win a PHXFW tshirt!
