Just because the 80’s were a lifetime ago doesn’t mean its style belongs in the bin labeled “old.” On the contrary, with Halloween just around the corner there is no better time to get your disco fever on, but how do you make this look fabulous? The answer is: Madonna. In order to make this costume work, you are going to need a few key pieces: a short skirt, bustier top or tank top, fingerless gloves, biker boots, biker style leather jacket, big lace hair ribbon, and lots of jewelry (i.e. bangles, hoop earrings, necklaces, etc.) Remember that the 80’s also meant big hair, so don’t be shy on the teasing! Finish the look off with your favorite shade of red lipstick and get ready to dazzle your friends!
It’s a classic for a reason. But update this Marilyn look by ditching the cliché Seven Year Itch white dress idea and just go for a body hugging dress and sky high stilettos with old Hollywood Glam make-up like Kelly Osbourne. The key to this look is the make-up; focus on vibrant lips and lots of mascara. Hit up YouTube and watch a 1950’s hair tutorial to get Marilyn worthy locks, or if it’s in your budget just spend a little extra on a wig. You’ll get both a costume and a fun new date night look all in one.
SANDY FROM GREASE
For this Halloween, a classic, fashionable look is the timeless style of Sandy Olsen. Best known for her “tell me about it, stud” line in Grease. Not only will this costume slim you down, it will also give you the perfect pop of color with red heels. Incorporate an off the shoulder top and black leather leggings already in your closet or invest in them for future outfit options. If the night happens to be chilly, pull on a black leather jacket and all eyes will be on you.
Another fan favorite is the Audrey Hepburn look, which is surprising simple to pull off and modernize, such as Zooey Deschanel’s look. Everything about Audrey was clean, simple, and perfectly tailored. Go for simple pieces like a cropped blazer, tailored dress or pencil skirt and have extra fun with the accessories. Go with a big statement necklace or some oversized earrings. When it comes to hair and make-up, it’s all elegant and bold; think lots of cat like eyeliner, tons of mascara, and a high rise up do.
Cheers to a fashionable Halloween!
