PHXFW Presents…’Fashionably Pink’ Benefiting Susan G. Komen
The Fashionably Pink Celebrity Show benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure Phoenix kicks off Phoenix Fashion Week for the fourth consecutive year on Wednesday, October 5th. To emphasize the importance of this show, Phoenix Fashion Week has added another day to their calendar this year, with the show taking place at its own venue, the Musical Instrument Museum, and the three days following hosted at Talking Stick Resort. Pink fashions designed by PHXFW’s talented emerging and established designers will be featured on the runway, worn by breast cancer survivors and celebrities, including Mexico’s Next Top Model judge Jo Lance, seven-time Olympic medalist Amanda Beard, as well as Flagstaff’s Mayor, Sara Presler and many more!
This will be the fourth year Sharon Carlson, a twenty-one year survivor, has walked for the show, and she could not be more thrilled. “Even if just for a few hours, I am made to feel so special and believe me, after fighting breast cancer even a few hours of pampering can make a difference… because of this event, people from all over the valley are aware of the support the fashion community gives to finding a cure for breast cancer.” As mentioned, Flagstaff’s own mayor, Sara Presler, will be a part of the event again this year as well and is looking forward to supporting such a great cause. “As the first woman to serve as Mayor of Flagstaff, I know breast cancer affects our entire community. As women, we must lead for our sisters and mothers, aunts and grandmothers, daughters and neighbors. We must lead with vision to improve the lives of women, push the edge in scientific research, and find a cure. Together, we can. Together, we will.” Although this will be the first time Amanda Beard is involved with Fashionably Pink, she feels tied to the cause on a personal level and is passionate about showing her support. “Breast cancer awareness is very important to me. My grandmother and my aunt have both had breast cancer and I have seen how it can affect families firsthand. Fashionably Pink is a great event that I am very excited to participate in. I’m inspired by the survivors who will be getting up on the runway with me and thankful that I can do my part in raising awareness,” Beard said. For the first time, Phoenix Fashion Week is partnering with the NFL
Retires Association to invite talented former athletes to walk the runway. Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Famer, Nick Lowery, is proud to strut his stuff for a good
cause. “Fighting breast cancer is enough of a reason to be part of this event, but it also celebrates the growing sophistication and diversity of Scottsdale’s culture and I am proud to help be a part of that!” Lowery said. The runway show will start at 8:00pm at the Musical Instrument Museum, followed by an exclusive, invitation only Celebrity Meet and Greet at 9:00pm.
Phoenix Fashion Week Operations Director, Brenna Moses came onto the team at the inception of this unique event and has had the opportunity to see its success flourish throughout the years. “The idea behind the Fashionably Pink show came from our idea in wanting to merge what our designers do best which is design fabulous fashions, alongside our efforts in wanting to support the Susan G,. Komen for the Cure Phoenix and help raise funds and awareness for breast cancer,” Moses said. Phoenix Fashion Week Advisor, Russell Goldstein, was also highly involved in the planning and execution of this event, especially with securing influential supporters. “Tonight Phoenix Fashion Week Charities focuses its efforts and energy on Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Through collaborative partnerships with Go Daddy, Mayo Clinic, Bank of America, Harkins, Memd.me and many others, we stand together to fight the war on breast cancer,” Goldstein said. This partnership with Mayo Clinic could not be a better fit for the event. “Mayo Clinic is dedicated to raising cancer awareness in our local communities through events such as Fashionably Pink. Mayo Clinic Cancer Center (MCCC) is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center with a multi-site national presence in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Ariz.; Jacksonville, Fla.; and Rochester, Minn. Teams of medical professionals from several specialties work together to provide innovative treatment strategies, including clinical trials, cutting edge technology and supportive care, for patients with breast cancer,” said Laurie Wilshusen, Director of Marketing. The Phoenix Fashion Week’s Fashionably Pink Fashion Show creates an avenue for us to extend our reach and bring awareness of the partnership to a new audience and we are extremely proud to be associated with the event.”
Many of our sponsors are also involved with this year’s silent auction, which works in conjunction with the Fashionably Pink Celebrity Show. With the help of Charity Benefits Unlimited, a portion of the proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Last year, Phoenix Fashion Week raised thousands of dollars for the Cure and hopes to continue raising more in 2011. The silent auction will take place in the Musical Instrument Museum on Wednesday night only, starting at 6:00pm.
