Brian Swan, To Style Designer District Show

As the heat of the Arizona summer is closely approaching, fashionistas are packing away their camel coats and
unearthing airy scarves and floral sundresses. However, this spring/summer limbo can
create confusion for even the chicest shopper. Luckily, Phoenix’s go-to downtown shopping destination, CityScape, is hosting a FREE event and runway show this Friday, April 29th, featuring fashions from its own retailer, Designer District.

Founder Kurt Blaydorn designed this specialty store to mimic a showroom within the fashion district and features a variety of styles, from casual to contemporary. “This show will really showcase our style mantra and enable us to articulate how we fit into the Phoenix fashion space as a brand that offers many options to many customers,” Blaydorn said. The fashion show will also involve an extensive amount of production, creating an atmosphere reminiscent of an art house. “We’re going to be shooting the show to turn into a commercial we’ll be showing on local TV, so I really wanted to make this event very unique and untraditional from other typical runway shows in that it will show not only the clothing, but we’re also trying to create an emotional connection with our collections and style concepts,” Blaydorn said.

What’s more, Phoenix Fashion Week stylist Brian Swan will be styling the fabulous looks for the runway show. “I, along with my team, am going to assist in the model selection, styling the models as well as the overall show. I am looking forward to the different brands involved in the show, especially G-Star Raw’s denim and quality pieces,” Swan said.

Phoenix Fashion Week’s Executive Director, Brian Hill, is also looking forward to the event and the growing involvement of the local community. “We simply want to support local fashion retailers. What Designer District is doing is important, and it was a no brainer for Phoenix Fashion Week. We will be out supporting our stylist Brian Swan and helping bring all the local fashionistas to the event,” Hill said.

Location is always an important factor when planning any event, but especially so with a fashion event. Vice President of Development at Downtown Phoenix Partnership, Dan Klocke, feels CityScape is the perfect place to host such an event, as the city’s fashion scene is rapidly developing. “I think it makes a lot of sense to have it at CityScape given the opening of several designer stores in the last few months and all of the energy at the entire development.  These events are very important for the local fashion community, as any event that gets the word out about the fact that Phoenix has a growing design community and helps us attract more people to the local industry is positive not only for the industry, but the city as a whole,” Klocke said.

Swan also commends the location of the event, as well as acknowledging the growth of fashion in Arizona. “Designer District has so many great brands inside of it…in a cool new location in CityScape. When you take the time to view these new boutiques and shops, you will find that fashion in Arizona is on a MAJOR upswing,” Swan said.

This event will begin with an in-store Happy Hour, where guests can sip bubbly, complimentary cocktails, and peruse the store’s fabulous merchandise from 5:30-7:00pm.

There will also be live entertainment throughout the evening, as well as the much anticipated runway show at 7:15pm featuring men’s and women’s styles, as well as upcoming spring/summer fashion trends.  The show will also have a segment showcasing fashions from local designer Joy Li, as well as another for G-Star Raw clothing.  Following the show will be an in-store cocktail party from 8:00 to 10:00pm, with exciting special guests.
