Yasmeen + Phoenix Fashion Week Launch UK “Tour of Style”

Phoenix Fashion Week has worked hard to put Arizona on the fashion map, launching locals into national and international success. We’ve taken this one step further in recent years, providing a spotlight for creative arts outside of fashion, including photography, art and music. One such creative mind is 23-year old songstress, Yasmeen,  a local artist and ASU student here in the Valley. There’s no stopping this emerging artist, who has big plans to tour the U.K. this summer in anticipation of the release of her first single Guns & Roses! “A lot of my inspiration comes from artists based out of the UK.  They seem to have a very personal relationship with their music and that is how I feel about my music. It is a very good starting point, as London is a very big trendsetter in the world of music , ” Yasmeen said.

Awarded “Best Local Artist” in 2011 by 944 Magazine and an entertainment staple at numerous Phoenix Fashion Week events, Yasmeen has worked hard to build a name for herself, with musical comparisons ranging from Lauryn Hill to Beyonce. No doubt this powerhouse has earned every second of her success, putting in endless hours at the recording studio, while studying full-time at ASU and even taking time to give back.

Yasmeen is on her way to the UK as we speak, and we are thrilled to announce that Phoenix Fashion Week has partnered with this singing sensation for the “Tour of Style!” For the first time ever, handpicked PHXFW designers will be providing stylish pieces for Yasmeen to rock on her UK tour, including on-stage for her May 29th performance for Google London and May 31st when she opens for Grammy award winner Miguel! From chic turbans to convertible shawls, eye-catching accessories and signature denim, Yasmeen has her bags jam-packed with the chicest garments for her “Tour of Style!” “I am so excited to get to wear some of PHXFW’s designers’ clothes! I am beyond grateful for their support, and I am excited to share their brands with my fans! I think it’s so awesome that PHXFW not only supports emerging designers, but has also shown a great amount of support to me as an emerging artist.”

See below for the official “Tour of Style” designer lineup…and keep an eye out on our Facebook page, Twitter (@phxfashionweek) and Instagram (@phxfashionweek) for the ultimate chic peek look at Yasmeen’s tour style:

“The Shawl Dawls team feels so honored to be able to participate in this grass roots effort with such a talented and beautiful music artist. We are grateful to Yasmeen and PHXFW for this amazing opportunity to expose our brand on a global platform and within the world of music, anticipating that our brand exposure in the UK with such a talented artist will have positive exponential effects!  We see that PHXFW is at it again – doing what they do best – helping to launch emerging brands towards success, as they have done for us in fashion and now with Yasmeen in music.  ” – Julie Cruz, Shawl Dawls Co-Founder

Blue Bird Apparel

“I always want to be involved in placements, just like this approach offered by Phoenix Fashion Week. It’s super helpful to have the PHXFW team facilitate this, along with the promotion and word of mouth buzz. We can’t wait to see the pictures of Yasmeen wearing Blue Bird Apparel and the ability for use to share audiences.” – Anna Friss, Designer, PHXFW Designer of the Year 2011.

JHaus

“It’s exciting to continue our great working relationship with Phoenix Fashion Week since being in their Emerging Designer Challenge last year. We were incredibly excited to be selected as a brand in the ‘Tour of Style’ and seeing as our brand was also started on grassroots, we are looking forward to the exposure for our brand, not just in fashion but now in the music and entertainment industries as well.” -Jlynn Hausmann, Designer

Hearts.com

“Hearts was excited to be asked to provide jewelry for Yasmeen’s tour. We are always happy to support and be involved in anyway with local talent! It’s exciting to see our pieces travel the world and we wish Yasmeen all the best on her journey!” -Tiffany Phillips, Hearts Stylist

Venius Turbans

“I am most excited about the fact that Yasmeen is already an avid turban wearer, so this opportunity was the perfect fit for Venius Turbans, and we appreciate that Phoenix Fashion Week thought of us! We are excited to see Yasmeen wear our designs, including our best-selling turban scarf and classic style. We can’t wait to see how she styles them on stage and to see everyone’s reactions.” -Venius Adams, Designer

No doubt this stunner’s UK tour is just the start of what will be a massive career. “As a singer/songwriter, my goal is to be a light to others through my songs. For me, music has always been a great escape and giving me the emotion needed to get through my days. I feel like for every emotion I have ever felt, I have been able to find a melody to match. If I can give that feeling to someone, I will have succeeded.”

Stay tuned for the official Google Hangout link to Yasmeen’s live performance in London tomorrow afternoon! (May 29th)!

VIDEO Inspiration: On the Street with Bill Cunningham

bill cunningham

Are you an on-the-go fashionista working hard to stay up-to-date with new fashion trends, lusting over street style and always looking for inspiration? Ok, maybe that’s me, but there are loads of local fashion bloggers and professionals out there trying to do the same.

What better place to turn to for this than the NY Times style section and specifically, Bill Cunningham’s genius ‘On the Street’ video series.

As a huge fan of his since first watching the documentary (it’s on Netflix by the way!), I have been obsessed with listening to Cunningham’s energetic trend reports while working, writing or to generally stay educated and inspired, fashionably speaking.  If you haven’t watched (or listened) to his ‘On the Street’ video series, prepare to be as obsessed as I am, while staying on-top of the fast paced fashion trends that come and go each season.

Plus, with each video providing a first hand look at NYC and it’s amazing street style, what’s not to love?

What fashion trends have you spotted on the street here in Phoenix and are currently inspired by?  What do you think of Bill Cunningham’s ‘On the Street’ trend report videos? Post a comment below and let me know!

PHXFW Street Style: Arizona Blogger Conference at the Saguaro Hotel 4/28

The PHXFW Media Team was thrilled to attend the first-ever Arizona Blogger Conference last Saturday, and we were BEYOND impressed! From the awesome goodie bags stuffed with full size products, jewelry, gift cards (and more!) to the beautiful venue and amazing speakers, the event was simply blogger heaven. The event began with pictures in front of a Madewell denim quilt backdrop (we heard this event was its next stop after Coachella!), a friendship bracelet station and loads of delicious bites and vendors to shop. Later into the evening debuted a fabulous model from The Agency Arizona, who showed off her best blogger poses to the sold out crowd. Guests were led into an intimate room at the Saguaro, perfect for the presentations by some talented speakers, covering everything from lighting and photography to leveraging your blog as a business. The event concluded with an exciting raffle, catchy music and bloggers raking through their goodie bags (myself included!).

Overall, the Media Team met so many passionate fashion bloggers, spotted some friendly faces like Dustin of Indie Stitch and Heather of LA Fashion Snob and truly enjoyed ourselves. We couldn’t be more happy for the Phoenix Style Collective, who, along with PHXFW, honestly believe in the blogging community in Arizona and offer up their support with events such as this. Now THAT is something to blog about!

In case you were wondering, snapping the evening’s street style couldn’t have been more fun, seeing all the stylish bloggers the event attracted. The chic Saguaro Hotel backdrop didn’t hurt either!

Festival Fashion: Spring 2012 Edition

Chunky jewelry in neon hues, oversized sunnies and dresses that are just as free flowing as the tunes: yes, the season of music festivals is finally upon us!

As Coachella slips into our rearview as of last week, the Phoenix Fashion Week team has you covered for Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, Electric Daisy Carnival and any other summer concerts you plan on attending. After all, what better occasion to freely express yourself than a music festival? The best part about selecting outfits for a concert is anything goes. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that music festivals are exhausting, all-day events. Donning those cute Michael Kors jelly wedges can mean hideous blisters and calluses. Remember to incorporate functional pieces into your outfits.

DSquared’s Spring 12 collection is a go-to for music festival outfit inspirations. Fringed beige vests add a boho chic touch to grungy band tees. Opt for a classic summer look with cut-off jean shorts, which can be paired with band tees, sheer button-downs, or printed bandeaus.

Play it safe with the maxi dress, an ever-occurring spring staple, as indicated by Kate Spade and Peter Som’s Spring 12 shows. What better way to rock the hippie chic look than rocking a maxi dress with loose locks?

Another Spring 12 trend to incorporate into your concert wardrobe may be a safari chic look with animal print and jungle tones, as seen by Marni and Michael Kors. Pairing cheetah print with leather or combat boots adds an edgy touch to a grunge-glam look.

A hit of the season is also the crop top, from the likes of ASOS among others. Dodge the heat with this comfy-cute number and pair it with high-waisted shorts or pants for ultimate functionality.

Stay cool in denim with the colorful twist that has been a hit this spring. Denim shorts and pants in feminine spring colors are a pop of personality to the classic staple.

Music festivals are stellar occasions to show off your individuality with vibrant colors, wild patterns and all the other outlandishly cute trends Spring 12 fashion has to offer. Concerts are free of fashion guidelines, so have fun with it!

*We love feedback! Post a comment with your favorite festival trends and you could win a free PHXFW t-shirt!

Street Style with PHXFW: New Times’ Artopia at The Saguaro Hotel 4/7

Nearly 500 fashionistas, hipsters and local tastemakers came out to the Phoenix New Times’ annual Artopia event, this time at the gorgeous Saguaro Hotel in Scottsdale. Phoenix Fashion Week was thrilled to be on-board this year as the night’s official fashion partner. The crowd mingled and mixed at the sold out event, along with sampling local food and drink vendors. PHXFW’s live mannequins, featuring the fashion and accessory vendors of the evening, were a big hit, with an entourage of guests surrounding the models after every thirty minute outfit change, snapping pictures and oogling over the chic ensembles. What’s more, fashionistas could shop any of the looks in the Shop Garment District, the main shopping area of Artopia featuring the best of local fashion.

As always, PHXFW Media Team was working the crowds, searching for the best inspirational street style looks!
