Currently Loving: Carey Mulligan x Harper’s Bazaar UK

{CURRENTLY LOVING} Carey Mulligan’s flawless etheral beauty look on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar UK June 2013 issue. Hair by Jenny Cho. Makeup by Georgie Eisdell.

Want to recreate this look? Start with a dewy complexion and dab a rosy multi-tasking tint (Benefit has a great option) on your cheeks, lips and eyes. Finish off with a light coat of mascara and twist your hair into a loose chignon, leaving out a few face-framing pieces to complete the look. It’s all about minimal, natural beauty here.

Are you loving it too? Leave a COMMENT and let us know what you think!

Focal Point Salon Presents…MIM Rocks Fashion

focal point

There are many important components that go into styling a fashion show. From the hair and makeup to accessories and the clothing itself. For MIM Rocks Fashion every year, top stylists are given a platform to show their creativity and styling talent to the fashion community in high-energy, focused fashion shows featuring looks by local designers and boutiques. Phoenix Fashion Week is thrilled to announce our MIM Rocks Fashion Title Sponsor for 2013, Focal Point Salon.

Focal Point Salon was born June 30, 2009 with a vision of a relaxing, colorful, and pampering atmosphere with a focus on guest satisfaction, catering to men and women alike. Their services include hair, makeup, and facial waxing. “Our Lather Lounge is our shampoo area separated from the salon by a waterwall. The room has four massaging shampoo chairs, dimmed lighting, soft music, and each guest is offered a hand and arm massage along with their scalp massage. After a long day at the office, the Lather Lounge experience is sure to put the mind at ease and relieve stress,” said Focal Point Salon Owner Lauren Naylor.

As a consistently recognizable name at fashion week events since last year’s Emerging Designer Announcement, Focal Point Salon is working behind the scenes with each of the five stylists leading up to and during the event to ensure their vision comes to life on the runway, from the perfect pop of lip color to a complex side braid, expect to see lots of fashion forward looks on the runway this Friday. “The Emerging Designer Announcement last June was an exciting event to be involved in. MIM Rocks Fashion is a larger show with many more models and looks. For us, it’s an amazing experience to be involved in and any fashion events possible…Not only for the experience but from a networking standpoint as well. It’s great to see the talented designers bring forward their new looks and for us to play a part in the completed look,” Naylor said.

For MIM Rocks Fashion, Focal Point Salon will collaborate with our top stylists to convey the exact look and feel they are envisioning for each of their fourteen runway looks. “We always come to an event prepared by putting together a book of current looks for the season. This way the designer can give us ideas of what they are looking for. The stylists come with an open mind and several accessories, pins, products and tools to be able to create the desired style. Same thing with makeup…whether a bold or natural look, we have many options available. Basically, we come ready for anything!”

“2013 will be a great year and we are thrilled to be a part of MIM Rocks Fashion and other upcoming events with Brian Hill and Phoenix Fashion Week!”

Fashion Week Favorites: 2013 Oscars Red Carpet

The Oscars are mesmerizing and a bit sad at the same time, mainly because it reminds me of the end of an amazing season of awards shows and their stunning red carpets.  That being said, the dynamic duo (aka Tina Fey and Amy Poehler) would have been a welcomed hosting sight, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself, watching the hours of red carpet coverage and endless Twitter chatter surrounding the big night.

White was definitely a standout color trend on the red carpet this year. While I was a bit surprised at the lack of color, there were definitely many fashion moments that stood out as our clear “favorites”:

As the new face of Dior, Best Actress winner Jennifer Lawrence wowed in an ivory gown from the designer's Spring '13 Couture collection.

Karen Walker Sunnies + Advanced Style = Obsessed

The obsession started last year when I heard about the Advanced Style documentary film. The Advanced Style team, headed by creator/blogger Ari Seth Cohen, visited Phoenix recently (seen here) to offer a presentation at the Phoenix Art Museum on personal style and discuss their new  film.

advanced 1advanced 2

The obsession continues with the official announcement by Refinery 29 that celeb favorite sunnies brand Karen Walker has partnered with the Advanced Style team for their latest campaign. Shot by Ari Seth Cohen, this insanely chic group of ladies (aged to perfection I might add) don the newest Karen Walker sunnies collection in a campaign that is a serious breath of fresh air in a sea of typical.

Makes me want to drain my bank account on sunnies AND raid my grandma’s closet for vintage gems…at the same time.

Fashion Week Favorites: 2013 Golden Globes Fashion + Beauty

From the dynamic duo of girl power that hosted this year’s Golden Globes, to the memorable moments that made the 3 hour ceremony literally FLY by, here are our top fashion and beauty moments from The Golden Globes 2013:

golden fashion

While there weren’t any real fashion surprises this year, there were a few that had us rushing to Twitter about: Kate Hudson‘s envy-inducing Alexander McQueen gold key-hole gown; Jessica Alba‘s coral gown and matching clutch beautifully complimented her St. Tropez tan; Jennifer Lopez‘s long sleeve lace number by Zuhair Muhad was sheer perfection.

golden beauty

Beauty was all about old Hollywood glam at The Golden Globes, from a subtle greige eye on Marion Cotillard, to Rachel Weisz‘s and JLo‘s Veronica Lake inspired hair…even Weisz’s burgundy lip was a welcomed subtle pop of color.

New Blow Dry Bar Making a Splash in East Valley

The East Valley is in for a treat thanks to the new expansion of a well-known Mesa salon, Fuchsia Spa, who has expanded their traditional services to offer the first blow dry bar in the area. A blow dry bar is a salon where you get your hair blown out, no cuts, no color, just blow outs. These ‘bars’ have been popping up all over, adding yet another place to your list of must-visit pampering salons.

This ever expanding trend is being fueled by Fuchsia Spa, a salon whose main goal is to offer spa services and pamper women at an affordable price.  Owned by Erin and Lisa, the original salon opened back in 2007 when the recession began. Despite the odds, the salon succeeded and is now pleased to expand not only their services, but their salon as well. Fuchsia Spa’s new home is at the Village Square at Dana Park Shopping Center in Mesa. The expansive investment was a way to revamp their salon services to offer the new spa and blow dry bar.

The day spa’s services range from $19 for Gal on the Go nail services, to $119 for an Ultimate Facial. Since opening, the salon has averaged $1 million in sales per year. With the added services of the blow dry bar, the two owners anticipate a 100% growth in sales by the end of the first year to $2 million. Amazing right? Well this mastermind duo didn’t come up with such a successful idea overnight, in an interview with Fashion Phoenix, the two women explain that it took one year of careful planning before they could put their idea to the test. Even with all their success, the owners also revealed an ambition they have yet to accomplish; they would love to see Fuchsia Spa franchised. If their success so far is any insight into their future, these two women have nothing to worry about.

Fuchsia Spa is located at 1854 South Val Vista Drive #108 Mesa, AZ 85204. Complete with a sleek new interior, friendly staff and affordable prices, this salon is sure to leave you impressed. Since there is no such thing as too much pampering, go get your hair blown out and plan a night out to show it off, you’ll be the highlight of the night!

*We love feedback! Post a comment with your favorite blow-dry style!
