Sophistiqué Meets Rap: The New Side of Fashion Houses
Picturing a collaboration between Dr. Dre and someone like Oscar de la Renta seems pretty far fetched. However, seeing the new outrageous themes the fashion world has come up with lately kind of makes this odd pairing appear to be a genius move. And you know what? It was! Earlier this year, Oscar de la Renta announced his partnership with the infamous rapper Dr. Dre. What could they possibly produce together? The real question is, what could they not?
It turns out, the pair combined their specialties to produce a sort of Dr. Dre and Oscar de la Renta hybrid. Can’t picture it yet? It involves Beats by Dr. Dre headphones and lots of fur, courtesy of Oscar de la Renta.
This partnership launched its first pair of lavish designer headphones that actually double up as earmuffs thanks to all the fur. These designer headphones are currently on display at the “new arrivals” section of the Oscar de la Renta website.
These over the top trendy headphones are retailing for $695. The extravagant partnership comes as even more of a surprise when you compare de la Renta’s other partners, such as US luxury stationary firm Mrs. John L. Strong, on item such as notecards, invitations and place cards. The sets of 12 place cards also featured on the same website as above and are selling for a far more accessible $50.
This collaboration hints at a hip-hop themed venture at a time when Oscar de la Renta counts Nicki Minaj and Kanye West among his fans. Oscar de la Renta also announced the launch of a childrenswear collection for Fall 2012 just a couple of months ago, according to the website Italiaserv.
These super cool designer earmuffs are just another example of risks fashion houses are taking in order to come up with astonishing items to enhance their trademark styles. It might be risky initially, but in my view, these collaborations are actually marks of brilliance. My message to designers: Keep ‘em coming!
*We love feedback! Post a comment and let us know if you would sport these headphones!
